Robin's Egg Blue

When the idea came to call this camp the color of a robin's egg, I knew there had to be a backstory. The same substance which gives robins’ eggs their blue color is involved in the natural process that takes place to heal an injury or bruise. 'Bilverdin' works as an antioxidant, and protects the baby birds from mutations; created in the spleen, it also works to break down blood to facilitate healing in animals and humans.

The same God who created beauty and design is the God who created everything with a purpose, with total care, and with our protection and health in mind. In spite of our ways and mistakes, God loves us and redeems us: “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed… my righteous servant will justify many” (Isaiah 53).

Why is it important to know the character of God and the role of Jesus and the Holy Spirit? So that things may go well for us, our families, and in the world: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Robin's Egg Blue at a Glance

In it's first year in Minneapolis, Robin's Egg Blue Camp is for kids ages 5-9 (give or take a year) and runs from Monday-Thursday, 9:00AM - 1:00PM, outdoors, at Lake Harriet.

At Robin’s Egg Blue, we teach basic biblical tenets, with an understanding that God is our Creator and that the science of the natural world is His handiwork.

Learning dance and music basics will be in the service of worship, which is actually the origins of both- praising God with our song, dance and music. Children will be able to create their own songs and dances in a judgment-free environment.

In addition to this, we will explore the natural areas at the lake, go swimming, play at the playground, play games, do art, all while getting to know one another. We will have a snack mid-morning, and children can bring lunch to eat at 12pm.

The camp is led by those with over 20 years experience in childhood education, and by committed believers in the gospel of Jesus Christ. References are available for the leader and instructors of the camp. We uphold the highest standard of integrity for how children and parents who participate in Robin's Egg Blue are treated.

Scripture

What do the scriptures say about children?

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates".

Deuteronomy 6: 4-9

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Psalm 139:13-16
